Work Exchange Instructions & FAQs

How do I apply to work at the conference?

Approximately 40 Work Exchange participants will be needed. Submit your Work Exchange application along with the nonrefundable $90.00 Work Exchange fee. The ICDC registration fee is being waived for anyone assigned to be an active Work Exchange participant. The fees for the Career Issues Forum and the Professional Development Institutes are your responsibility as well as transportation, lodging and meals (other than those provided at the conference). Once we have received a suitable number of applications, we will cease to accept applications.

Can I choose which days/sessions I work?
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee individual scheduling preferences when assigning Work Exchange tasks. Each Work Exchange participant will be asked to complete a Work Exchange Questionnaire, which will be used to help the ICDC Work Exchange Coordinators to assign tasks. Individual scheduling requests are not guaranteed, however, individual "preferences" will be taken into consideration.

What are the benefits of being a Work Exchange participant?
By working a total of 8.5 hours, which includes a 1.5-hour training session (7.0 work hours + 1.5 training), the conference registration fee will be waived. You also have the benefit of being able to network with others in your field, and have the satisfaction of playing a part in the conference.

Work Exchange requirements?
  • All work exchange applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • The ICDC registration fee is waived for all applicants accepted for work exchange positions.
  • A $90 Work Exchange fee is required at the time you submit your Work Exchange application online. This fee is nonrefundable should you cancel for any reason. Work Exchange participants who do not fulfill their responsibilities will be billed for the onsite conference registration amount.
  • Work Exchange participants who wish to attend PDI’s and/or the Global Career Issues Forum must also register and pay separately on the ICDC Registration Form.
  • There are a limited number of Work Exchange positions available. Once we have received a suitable number of applications, we will cease to accept applications.
  • Please consider this an 8.5-hour part time job (7.0 work hours + 1.5 training). Your scheduled hours will be split into shifts that will be assigned throughout the main conference program, November 7 - 9, 2008, including a 1.5 hour mandatory training/orientation meeting.
  • Accepted Work Exchange participants will receive notification to fill out Accident Insurance Agreement and Work Exchange Questionnaire Forms.

Work Exchange expectations?

  • Have tons of patience and a comfortable pair of shoes!
  • Be available all of Friday, November 7, Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9, 2008 and have flexibility for days/times of assignments.
  • Show up on time and ready for your scheduled assignment.
  • Be willing to work hard and know that your contribution is deeply appreciated and needed!
  • Make all conference participants feel welcome.

How will I know what to do?
You will attend training prior to the conference. Work Exchange participants will be provided with a training manual during training to give you an overview of your duties and assignments and to answer many of the basic Work Exchange questions. Work Exchange coordinators will be available throughout the conference to answer any questions you may have. Once we receive your completed work exchange application and fee, you will receive an email confirmation, which will include the date(s), time, and location of the 1.5 hour mandatory Work Exchange training/orientation meeting.

How do I keep track of my time?

  • A time sheet (signed by a Work Exchange coordinator) is critical to document Work Exchange participant’s hours served and to ensure that you will not be billed for the onsite conference registration fee.
  • In order to accurately keep track of hours worked, Work Exchange participants will log in and out at the beginning and end of their shift each day.
  • Both the Work Exchange participants and Work Exchange program coordinators will sign time sheets.
